A photo essay included five photos.
Foxconn -- The murderer
Foxconn, one of the large factories in China, produces Apple products and spreads them to the world. Owing to the fact that the demand of Apple products is on the continuous rise as many people are addicted to the design and innovation of Apple, more and more workers are needed to involve in the production process. This is why I linked photo 1 and 2 together. Although one of them is taken to promote Iphone, the elegant design under the spotlight and in the focus of the camera, while the other is to show the working condition of workers in Foxconn, those workers are immersed in their work. When we know the background of these two company : Apple and Foxconn, we will understand there are such linkage.Superficially, this is a tremendously good phenomenon to all. Why not? Foxcoon, on one hand, gives what the consumers are thrilled to buy. On the other hand, it provides job opportunity to people who wants to have a job.
Sad to say, Foxconn is inhumane to the workers. It is a sweatshop which pushes their workers to the corner of death. From photo 2 and 3 on the right, there are two workers are jumping from the rooftop of Foxconn. One shows the girl is about to jump, the other shows the other girl is on her way to death. These make viewers shocked I bat. Though there are plain background on the photos only, what the girls' action on the photos is POWERFUL enough to capture our attention. The management system of it is in question. It forces workers to do the “identical” procedure to make iphone time to time. Worse still, most of them have to work overtime with extremely low salary. It is crystal clear that when one works in long hours with repeated procedures, his mental health will definitely be hurt. Foxconn did not consider the psychological harm it brings to them. It can only see MONEY in their eyes.
Eventually, some of the workers cannot bear the pressure anymore. Hence, they chose to quit their life. Though Foxconn can give them JUST ENOUGH money to sustain their life, it destroys their self-esteem. It treats them as working machines, but not humans. The families of the dead workers are in deep desperation. On photo5, the families are crying and hanging banners with words to accuse Foxconn. Only when the law of labur is implemented and supervised by the government strictly will lead to the end of the similar situation.
