Photo 2 was also taken on the same day - 24th February for Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013 by Oriental Daily. One candidate is kneeling whereas another one is sitting on the ground after reaching the terminal point of the race. According to their body gesture and the existence of helpers, they are probably exhausted after the whole journey so they lean on the ground.
The only similarity photo 1 and 2 share is that they are describing the same event at different sections - photo 1 is on the way while photo 2 is at the destination.
Although all of the runners focused in photos are just general public, their attitudes differ greatly. Those two people who are taking photos in photo 1 want to entertain themselves from the race. Their act probably desires to show off in social websites that they are participating in a grand occasion. Therefore, they treat the event playfully and this kind of behavior also influences other runners adversely. Inversely, those two participants in photo 2 take the competition seriously. In order to surpass their own personal record, they have tried so best in the competition that they insist on and ignore the fatigue of the body. Despite the fact that they are wearied, this kind of sportsmanship worths big round of applause.
In conclusion, although both of the photos were taken for the marathon in 2013 in Hong Kong, the attitudes of athletes in two pictures have extreme differences.
